Similar sbj. below but this has a twist.

Got 3 points (an SP30) last year in August but kept my mouth shut until insurance renewal, which is in 10 days time

Thought i should'nt push my luck any further and spilt the beans.

From a price of ?534, (a decrease of almost ?100 from last year) my new price is now ?696! should'nt of bloody said anything.

Thats ?162 quid more! ARSE!!

Apparently the increase is because of the (1st) conviction, not the points. Increases become smaller, the more you accumilate.

Has anyone else got ?points or worse?? How much is your insurance?

Mines a mk3 16v gti. No mods. I'm 25. Got 6 years no claims. With Elephant Insurance for 1 year now.

To continue with the rant, a mate of mine totalled his mk2 gti 18 months or so ago and was up on charges of driving without due care or attention. He wrote-off a tracktor coming out of a field on a country road, smashed the front axle and both wheels off the thing.
After going back and forth to court for the best part of a year (all posponed hearings, so he never faced a trial) he got off with no conviction! WHAT!! And 38mph cost me a ?60 fine and 3 points (for 3 years).

No points on my licence but thought I would share my exeriences. I have been with Elephant.co.uk for two years and each year they have been massively cheaper than anywhere else. BUT this year (may) my quote was for ?560 for a Mk3 8v GTI (97, P), which was about ?20 cheaper than last year and only for a 10 month policy. By the way I am 25 with 4 years NCB and one non-fault claim (fire). Its been mentioned on a previous thread about insurance but I tried Herts Ins (HIC) and got quoted ?450 for a 12 month policy, fully comp, etc with ?300 xs, which also insluded track day insurance. I then phoned Barry Grainger (broker) and got a quote for ?410 with a ?250 xs. Probably gonna go with them. Hope this helps for the future

I think your quite lucky to have such cheap insurance personally. I have a modded mk 2 with the mk 3 16v engine and the best deal i got was with adrian flux for, wait for it, ?1,400!!!! I have 4 yrs no claims, no points, driven for 5 yrs and no fault accidents! one fire claim, non fault. So personally i would rather have your three points if my insurance cost the same as yrs.

Yeah, should'nt complain too much, my deal is pretty good. Got about 6 quotes in the last few days, Tesco's gave me ?667 but only with a Thatcham approved security device.(and a copy of the invoice/certificate sent b4 renewal) all the rest ranged from ?800 to almost ?2000, shocking. I went with Elephant again, i suppose you tried plenty of companies judderi? if you ain't, you should do, thats one hell of a price mate.
