Used car - Possible Headlight issues
« on: 19 January 2025, 18:30 »
Evening all,

I'm going to view a Mk7 on a 65 plate, on Tuesday at a dealer, in Hook. Noble motorsports, if anyone knows them.

Anyway, I've zoomed in as much as I can on the car images, and it appears the headlights, may have been split at some point.
The casing looks poorly repaired, but hopefully moisture and water is kept out.

Now, could this be a nightmare to repair, if it's found to be true and then becomes a haggling zone?

I'm pretty good with most things, though never split headlights before, and seeing 2nd hand sets going for £600 and more online, is stiff to swallow, if everything else, is going for it.

A couple of alloys have the beginnings of corrosion, and would need a repair...assuming diamond cut?

Anyway, if anyone knows the car WV65YRN, I'd be eager to know more about it, before I drive from Essex Tuesday morning.

Cheers

Wayne.

Well, the lights must have been apart to change the red inner trim.

Do you have a love of purple? All those changes look a bit challenging to me!

Hello JV,

In all honesty the aesthetic changes can be altered. I actually do dig the purple, though the badges are a tad OTT.

The mechanics and service scheduled items are what matter more to me.

DSG servicing etc. Given its mileage, I’d expect 2 services here, at 40,000 miles each for example. If not, that is a big bargaining chip, maybe even a walk away point.

The headlights do look terrible, but may be fixable if I was able to sort them with some TLC.

Hi Wayne. Given you have already noted a few issues that may require a lot of expense to sort, why not look for a better car? Apart from Dynaudio, I can't see much else unusual (other than the personalisation) and Dynaudio isn't the be all. Potentially at that mileage the thermostat/waterpump might also need doing, probably for the second time.

Hey Watts,

Fair comment to be fair.

I’m coming to these cars from an Audi A7 SLine, so still learning about them.

I get what you’re saying, and agree to an extent. But…..if I could pinch it for a grand less, if the mechanics are good and the DSG services have been done for example, which I don’t know yet, it might not be as bad.

I’m happy to stand in front of it and give it a chance. Not like there’s a shortage of Mk7’s if I found it was a bit of a dog.

I like the look of the red one. For starters it has been regularly serviced, it has Pirellis all round which although I'm not a fan, it does indicate a cared for car. Also it's a Performance Pack so better breaks and a better diff. And it's red, I like red. Looks like a decent car to me. Impressive too that the driver's seat bolster appears good too. With all of them though on diamond cut alloys, there's a high chance they won't be able to be cut again as there's a limit to the number before they get too thin.

I like the red car too.

Would you sack off the Grey one and go and view the Red one then?

I agree a 1 owner car and full VW SH is not to be sniffed at, though it’s MOT history isn’t as strong as the Grey one.

The red one is my current No.2.

This is very true too.

Think I'll swap the booking and go and view the red one first. The wife thinks the grey one has been ragged going by its look.

I also thought the red one was a PP car, due to the calipers it's wearing. GTI logos and no gap in the caliper itself.

The history is strong and the dealership has a good review platform too.
