It seems I was super lucky and had a build date of the 9th via email and picked it up from the dealer on Xmas Eve.  Super quick somehow and the dealer was really surprised.

Ordered a GTi September according to the dealer it's being built week commencing 6th January.

" Good morning Graham,

Your vehicle is due to go into build week commencing 06 January – from there, it usually takes 6-8 weeks to arrive with you, so we are looking at a February delivery."

Hope it's a March registration lol

First VW car ever always had BMW's but the latest styling has went to pot and quite liked the boy in works mk7 GTi and with a dealer being right across from my work it was a no brainer.

I might be very close to ordering and returning to driving a performance golf. After a couple years owning a Tiguan R with all the trimmings, i am wondering whether to proceed to now order a new mk8.5 Golf R Estate  with all the trimmings to replace it. The Tiguan R is a great car, its like driving an XL Golf with higher suspension you barely notice.  The Tiguan was bought from stock and although close, was not exact configuration i would have normally specced.  So now feel time is right to look at other options especially with the great offer of around £6500 discount on the configuration i am currently looking at, on a new Golf R Estate with my VW dealer.

Can anyone let me know if there is more legroom in the rear seats of a golf R Estate compared to a golf hatchback?

My order was 24 August and I’m picking mine up on Tuesday too. Maybe we had the same build week and ship over to the UK.

According to Thomas (autogefühl), there is more legroom, he refers to the golf estate/variant as LWB, using the same floorplan as the Octavia estate. https://youtube.com/@autogefuehl?si=4SEqYXvEcz1hihMJ
