Lovely shot there Carlosfandango, car, backdrop, lighting etc.

The Queenstown wheels suit the body colour well (and they’re not too wide to fit through the gate!), looking forward to hearing more of your comparison thoughts between the GTIs.

Thanks Exonian, Dolphin is a great colour, the wheels were a must have for me and do suit the car rather well with that paint, unfortunately there wasn’t a ‘super wide’ wheel option available!

Loving this thing! Still only in double digit mileage so far, But my first impressions are VERY positive, feels more premium than the Mk8 somehow, it’s hard to put into words as to why, but it feels different compared to the Mk8 GTI I traded in. I’ll post more as I get a bit more time behind the wheel.

HK and HUD are new to you right?

What do you think about those?

New to me in a golf, yes. But I did have both in my old M135i xDrive,
The HUD is just as good as the one in the BMW, very good quality image, and works as you’d expect, I haven’t done many miles yet so haven’t had a lot of chance to drive in different scenarios with the HUD, but as with the BMW I’ll likely not always have it switched on, actually probably off more so, this is just a personal preference however, as it works really well and displays the required information nicely. As for the HK, from memory, it’s not quite as good as the system in the BMW, but that one did have logik7 and was set up a little different with more speakers in extra locations, when I picked up the GTI I initially thought it didn’t sound much different to the standard system, but overlooked the fact that the equaliser was set flat and it was set to speech etc, once set up and surround was active, it actually sounds pretty good to be honest, clarity is very good, and it is plenty load enough, the lows are nicely balanced but could be stronger, there are limits though I guess considering the hardware available, overall I’m pleased with the sound quality and glad I specced them both.

Folks let’s hope your cars are delivered before April next year as the budget is now doubling the first year duty rates for cars above76g/km of co2. Examples quoted are a Qashqai on 142g/km would go up by £270 a year and an M3 on 228g/km would double by £2340 a year making it £4680.

The equaliser takes a bit of tinkering with. I'm not that keen on the surround effect as it messes with how I expect my music to sound. I seem to remember the effect was even more pronounced on the BMW I had for the day too.

Yeah, I saw that reported in Autocar. The GTi is quoted at 162 g/km so there will presumably be a similar price hike to the Qashqai? It's included in the price of a new car so I wonder whether the manufacturers will absorb any of it, or just pass it on in full to the customer?

Changes in VED rates are not guaranteed by car sellers. You pay whatever the going rate is on day of registration.

So the rates by the sounds of it from new cars 01/04/25 are
151 to 170g/km - £680 will rise to £1,360
171 to 190g/km - £1,095 will rise to £2,190
191 to 225g/km - £1,650 will rise to £3,300
226 to 255g/km - £2,340 will rise to £4,680
Over 255g/km - £2,745 will rise to £5,490

So the new GTi will be £1360 ignore the £40k threshold issue these are totally new VED rates. The clubsport will fall into the next bracket at £2190 and the R will be in the same bracket as well. The figures if correct will be devastating for new car owners.

Aren't those first year ved rates though? Not the ongoing rate which is subject to the luxury add on...
