This is what a local detailer, trussed and recommended by many classic car restorers uses,

Underbody trays such as those on golfdave thread on mk7 forum are worth considering as further protection from stones etc.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

My car is coming up 6.5 years old so I thought I’ll give the underbody a jet wash and a couple of coats of dynax uc (keep the rust at bay on the subframes and suspension)

I wish mine looked like that! Currently buying supplies to grind the rust off and respray mine underneath.

To be fair I should have done  a before picture , it looked a lot worser with crusty bits all over in including the shocks. And the rear subframe arms were at least 3x worse at the front than the back . The dynax uc turns most of the rust to a darker colour .

That's the benefit of the rear suspension plastic aero covers. They protect the front of the arms.
