Eh ?? - just landed - what ?? did I miss something?

Anyways - MPG - for Jimble
GTI set at normal mode but that silly stop / start turned off!
Little bit of town driving and a little dual carriageway = 22mpg
Very gentle drive back, through centre of Derby - mostly 30mph = 28mpg

One thing to note:
This thing turns heads!!!!
While I had it parked on the road outside the house - people in cars where stopping at the side of it to look!
While driving (just, so dark) through the city centre - all the youngsters out on the pi$$ - pointing at it as I went by
So - not inconspicuous

I will post some more 'real world' MPG and feedback after tomorrows trip

Rik

NOT liking the the look of those mpg figures
AM liking its head turning ability

Thx for the report Rik.
Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR
Past: MK7 GTI / DSG / WHITE / 5 DR

Long term mpg after 1500 miles is 36.2, and that includes quite a few blasts.

Mk 6 was 34.1 when I sold it.

The air con has been on constantly though so 38-40 should be normal.

That sounds better - what were you getting when you first got it?

If they are anything like the diesels - they take a while to 'loosen up' and start pulling mpg closer to the book figure.
My mates MK7 GT Diesel when he fist got it was doing low 40's - 6000 miles later - its doing close to 60.

Stop start by the way is a big improvement from the early days.

It is barely noticeable and totally intuitive, it monitors battery, air con and engine temp.

Intelligent.

Engine temp seems to be several degrees higher than the mk6 and that's taking into account the warm Summer so far.

Edit. Oil temp.

The stop / start is more about getting used to it - it does work, it just freaks me out with the DSG - call me old fashioned :)

Saw something interesting on a Mazda 6 advert for their 150PS 2.2 Diesel today, boasting 67mpg economy(comparable to the GTD, but with 34PS less).

They had a prominent arse-covering disclaimer stating that published mpg figures should be used for comparison between car manufacturers only and may not reflect real driving experiences.

With this in mind and frequent postings for poor economy on MK7 Golf on other forums, modest gains over MK6 seem all anyone here can hope for. The official figures for mpg have more to do with reducing CO2 figures than expectations in normal driving. My dad has been disappointed with the mpg (but not the performance) compared to his MK5 170TDI, can't see it being any different for the GTIers.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I'd say 10% for a GTI, not quite the 18% VW claim.

Time will tell though, high summer temperatures and a new engine make it difficult to compare.

Actually, I'm not that bothered. The end result of this way of thinking will only go one way - diseasal.

It's certainly better than the mk 6 though.
