Cheers Satty. Can't believe I haven't bumped into you since then.

She's definitely missed. One of the nicest things I got told was 'if Steve Denton wants your car it's obviously a dam good car!' That was nice.

Still mk4 boy now.

Hope the mk2 is still treating you well.

Sometime last year I carried out the 1st changes.

One of the reasons I got the car cheap was the knocking rear beam. I got this sorted very soon after purchasing the car. Of course it made sense to upgrade so I had polybushes fitted in place of the originals.

Also some quick and easy mods happened. I debadged the tailgate, satin blacked the front grill and fitted some pressed plates.

Looking back now I've decided I don't like the plates or the grill so will be changed at some point back to originals lol.

Next up was to remove the wood trim. Quite why this is a option in a sports model I don't know. So I went on good old eBay and ordered up some carbon vinyl. I then set about removing all the bits I wanted covered and got trimming. Was very happy how it turned out:

Only thing I need to change now is the gear knob for some sort of plain black oem one. Any recommendations?

The bora then stayed like this for quite some time as I concentrated on the mk3. Just over a month ago tho I found the wheels I wanted and headed to west London to meet MJ the seller. Couldn't have been a worse day to be doing a deal outside as it was chucking it down. Still the price was good and MJ is a top bloke too so went away happy. Here's what I bought:

BBS RS, 3 piece split rims, 16"x8" front and 9" rear. Re drilled to 5x100.

Now straight away and I'm sure you will agree 16s are way to small for a bora and here's picture proof:

Yup tiny and even worse with enormous standard arch gap lol.

So you may be wondering what I'm thinking, well quite a popular mod in the US is the upsizing of wheels. Basically step up/ slant lips and barrels. It's a mod that means the 16" lips and barrels are surplus to requirements and will hopefully be sold at early edition. So once the company in the US has the barrel size back in stock that I want I will be ordering 4x 6.5" 16-18" barrels, 2x 1.5" 16-18" lips and 2x 2.5" 16-18" lips to make my set of 16" RS 18" 8.5F and 9.5R. Some may like the look some may not but I can't wait to get them.

I'd didn't take me long to get stuck in and have the wheels stripped after test fitting and a week later they where back from being blasted.

I had started cleaning up the lips ready to sell so thought I'd have a play around making them reverse mount just so my mate could have a look on his car.

Look pretty cool but not what I'm after. So now you know my wheel choice. Hopefully a update soon will have me building them up into the specs I listed above.

Thanks for reading

So last week I finally got a full day on the bora.

Since I've had it I've never give her a proper clean and decided if I wanted this car to be something to take to shows then it certainly needed it. Don't get me wrong she cleaned up well but then silver always does but deep down she was hanging.

1st up time to remove those sh!tty mud flaps

Simple job as I'm sure you can imagine but I was quite expecting how much crap they had stored behind them :

One side had a bloody weed growing in there. Safe to say I cleaned them all out and now you'd never know what was there.

Next up was to get the paint like new. Clay bar, machine compound, machine polish, full clean in the door shuts, door rubbers, roof gutters the whole lot and she's looked stunning. Paint feels and looks great now.

Poor time to take photos but trust me you can tell how different it was from a clean silver to a detailed silver.

Reflection:

Cool beading shot the morning after:

Next up lupo stubbies. As always once the old where taken off I cleaned the areas covered buy the parts. Always makes sense to clean as you go.

Compare shot:

And both fitted:

Although they match my previous painted grill I think the lower spec textured black lupos, along with the grill will be going back to silver once I get the front end painted. Just waiting on VW to get my US bumper strip in stock.

Next update will be me twindicating the headlights

Cheers

Next on my list was to twindicate the headlights. A job that removes the fog light and replaced with a extra indicator. Being a sport model I had the luxuries of fog lights so there was no need for cutting a hole unlike the non fog light version.

Well with any first step I needed to take the front end apart:

With the headlights off and on the table it was time to pull them apart. I heat gunned round the edge to loosen the sealer and then prised them apart. I've Joey modded mk3 golf headlights before and I used a oven. Oven makes it alot easier IMO. So with the plastic lense off time to pop out the chrome inner and get to work:

Pic is of spare part headlight. 1 of 2 I won on eBay for the extra indicator lense:

So with 4 headlights split apart I removed the indicator lense from the spare headlights and started painting then to look amber. It started poorly:

The paint I got hold of was rubbish. So had to clean them all back and start again:

They where a lot cleaner once I finished.

So with that paint binned I needed some more. Once again my go to guy was Geo, so after having a chat I bought some ford orange and set about painting all 4 indicator lenses:

Next up was to try and work out what to do. Lol. I went into this kind of blind and would make sure I was better equipped next time. Any way work in progress:

So next up I mounted the lower lenses in after a bit of trimming and bolted 1 bit to the original fog light mount. I then used a cable tie on another as I couldn't get a bolt in there to do the same.

Both lense and bulb holder needed trimming to fit but I got there in the end:

After this it was a case of using the spare lights again for part of there loom so that I could splice another feed into the indicator loom. With that done it was time to re-seal and put the headlights back together.

While the bumper was off tho I fitted my brand new 4mo splitter:

And once put back together it looked pretty dam good:

I've also been collecting some genuine black roof lining parts. I didn't want to paint anything so took a trip to see my mate Jack at VW who happily sorted out most of the parts for a good price. Some however I wouldn't buy. Grab handles at £40 each, visors £80 each and alarm sensors £400 the pair. That was with a bit of discount too. I did get the vanity lights, centre visor and main light switch tho. I sourced the visors on a wanted add and the rear mirror I got for a steal off eBay after realising what they cost new.

I will have to paint the rear light/alarm sensors as I'm not guna pay what there going for. So now I'm going to find some nice black suede for the roof lining and get trimming.

Time for update

I have seen a few pics of boras with a lot cleaner looking wipers. After looking around thinking they may have been lupo items a quick question on the Vw bora Facebook page had it answered. Newer mk4 wipers. So straight onto eBay and I found some for £20 which is half the price to what everyone else seems to be asking. They arrived and where fitted straight away:

Small difference that makes a big 1 IMO:

And a before and after:

Next up was a standard mk4, Infact VW mod. The momo team. Now I had a 280 in my mk3 and it was tiny so I knew the bigger car of the bora defo needed a 300. I drove to worthersee last year in a mk4 with a 280 and it's tiny. So after seeing the lad with the matte grey wrapped bora R was being broken I snapped it up. Good price and great condition so another happy purchase.

All fitted

Getting the old 1 of tho, what a chore!!!

So getting right upto date. I had a delivery turn up at the start of the week. 3 large boxes. Hmm what could be inside??

Yup these bad boys!!:

Now to get it fitted. I'm aiming for the car to be ready for DC in June so got a couple of months. It's not a major rush to get it done but 1 that I have to plan as I need the bora daily. So we will build the boot out how we want it and run the loom etc and then spend another day fitting all the struts so not to leave the car unusable.

I've also placed a order with wheel geek for my step up RS parts and can't wait to start building them.

Lastly I took a trip to see my mate Ryan Dawson last night who some of you may know has the matte green Bora featured in PVW a while ago. So now have a few more parts to go on the bora. :)

Until next time ;)

Thanks dom.

Will certainly give some feedback once there fitted.

Tweed after selling all the bits and from the mk3 I've now put that money into a house so am now playing with the car that I had. This car ticks a lot of boxes for me so is a winner. Plus will be used everyday.

Thats what missed then  having the money there does seem a waste to put into a car that you know you'll never get back.
Im sure this will look awesome soon

I totally get your reasoning fella as im in a similar situation.  I contemplated throwing a few thousand at my mk3 wagon but paintwork alone would have swallowed a fair chunk of that and id still be left with a shiny yet essentially unfinished rattly ole diesel estate which wouldnt really have even gained any real value.
Id still be hankering over more power and unachievable refinement anyway so sod it, il just buy something better in the first place.
