I changed my RCD310 to a RCD510 after a few months as the RCD310 looked so bad and didn't have the SD slot.

Sound is the same.
I've heard the RNS and it's certainly lacking in the oomph department,

Basically, it sounds CRAP.

They are both very different kettles of fish, the RCD310 & RCD510 are both made by Blaupunkt and the RNS510 is made by Continental, the RNS is certainly not bad, but its not as good as the RCD's.

The 310 and 510 are identical in sound, both use exact same components.

The pin swap isn't required on the MK6 AFAIK.

However you will get bulb out warnings so you need someone with VCDS to code that out.
Your BCM needs to have a software version of 575 or higher as well.

So if I code for rear LEDS will it fix this bulb out aswell? My GTI is MY2011
