Regarding the ESP issue,I think its each to their own,if you look at cars like the Megane 250 or Clio Cup,not what you would consider
in any way dangerous,but they are more shall we say "throttle adjustable" with their ESP systems switched off,than a GTi or Scirroco,which is probably why VW have responded.For those not into this kind of thing,you can continue to leave your ESP buttons
switched on,however with previous cars of mine,including a couple of Pumas,Focus ST170, and one of the last 205 GTi 1.9's,the opportunity to just get the back end to step out slightly before catching it with a bit of opposite lock on my favourite open 2nd/3rd gear corners with a polished surface by braking into the bend (especially with low surface temperatures)is not possible with the Golf as the ESP just cuts in and brakes individual wheels,even with it switched off,and thus spoiling the fun !!
