Not sure what your budget is or whether you've looked at Pistonheads:

Those prices are taking the p1ss, the first one has been for sale since November and the price hasnt changed in 4 months! The other one is £3k more than I paid for almost exatly the same spec as mine!
Remember, it's only a Golf ![evil ](http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/Smileys/modern/evil.gif)

I think that's the point I was making, there is stock on Pistonheads and quite a few vehicles have been there for a while. There is a Golf R on there that started at £34k and is on £27k. If it's been sitting, I'd just make an offer because it's only going to depreciate more.
I don't get the constant jibing about 'just a Golf'. The Golf does sh1t on pretty much everything else out there in that vehicle class. Yeah, it's expensive but it reminds me of Smirnoff vodka at the time of supermarket own brand vodkas being introduced. Supermarket premium came in at the same price point so Smirnoff looked at this and said 'we're better than the competition' so they increased their prices to create 'super premium'. What happened? Their sales increased because people wanted something better. Not that different with the Golf which defined the 'hot hatch' category.
This doesn't mean that I'm happy about paying over the odds for a car and is why I was selective with the tick boxes but there are obvious reasons that the brand has acted in this way.
