Mk 3 hubs on a Mk 2
« on: 05 July 2004, 09:30 »
Anyone swapped the Mk 3/ Mk 4 hubs (5 bolt) onto a mark 2?

I'd like to use 5 bolt wheels.

you can do this really easily. you could also use 98 on-ward passat hubs.
But be warned you will need all of the brakes as well. cos most 5 studs hubs have calliper hangers and not integral slider like the mk2 hubs so the mk2 callipers wont fit. but it is a great time to fit some monster discs and 4 pot callipers  ;D
The only mod you will have to do to the wish bones is swap the mk2 ball joint for the ball joint from the new hubs. There are no fitting probs as i have 96 passat hubs and lower ball joint with big brake kit on my mk2.
its just a case of making sure you get all of the bits you need and then just bolt them on. ;D

aye up me duck!

Thanks for the replies guys, especially jimbo for a nice detailed description.

I don't want to use adaptors, since the extra thickness = wrong wheel offset = poor steering geometry.

Cheers
