o6/06 TDI's
« on: 21 September 2006, 15:10 »
Just bought a new TDI...the 140bhp...old GT spec now badged as sport. Surprisingly fun to drive though looks a bit sensible...still can cope with that. Interested in any comments about the TDIs' pro's and con's and any ideas for sweetening the car up.

Sounds like a tractor, smokes more than a knackered old cortina but effortless drive and frugal on the go go juice.

Remap, coilovers, 18"/19" wheels and a bit of colour coding should see you right.

Ta. Any suggestions ref the all important stereo?? It has the standard one so far. Body bumpers etc are coloured and have fitted fogs and sunroof (which I love in the summer). Only thing that ticks me is the black band at the back. Go-wise am surprisingly chuffed. Actually goes like stink...matches my MK 3 GTI 16v...and frugal as you say...sadly necessary now I am in the realms of old fartdom doing teen runs all the time.

I have got a 170 bhp GT TDi - well pleased with it.  Mines is in Black, but it could do with some of those loverly big red brake calipers to set it off!

Had some Guy in a mk4 V5 gti trying to push me along the other day on the way home from work - give it some away from the lights and he was seeminlgy strugglin to keep up, at the next set he heard the diesel clatter and couldnt beleive it.

the body difference is only twin tail pipes I think on the 170 GT, but I think that the sport has a different frontbumper as well.

On the fuel front its getting about 44mpg at the moment, got 5000miles on it so it should get better as it loosens up.  my old 130bhp tdi passat used to easily get 50.

what you getting from yours? and any pics?

Thanks for that. Will send you some pics when I get out there with a camera...soon as she needs a clean this week! I have only done about 1500 in the car to date. Last one was a black Mk 3 GTI 16v which I loved but having had black cars for so many years this time I went for a steel grey one for some comic relief. Love the alloys they put on the car...some I am not so keen on and the fog lights give the front a little extra oomph...I'd like to see some photos of your 170 too. Whats the interior like??

Fuel wise I am getting around 50-54 to the gallon...and I am giving her some welly too. the whole oil thing is confusing me. I was told they guzzle about 1 litre per 800-1000 miles but so far my oil still seems to be full...wierd. The only thing I have noticed which i am not too keen on is a slight knocking noise sometimes after I turn the engine off...not on every occassion. Garage told me it wasn't anything to worry about but I am terminally sceptical about garages...so might ask the Phirm about it as thats where my partner takes his Corrado. Any ideas??
