Battery and amp question \ update on my upgrades
« on: 11 April 2006, 17:11 »
I was wondering how much of a strain on the battery having an amp in has, is it a big drain on the battery having an amp.

Just wondeirng as dont fancy breaking down one day because I've listened to too much music lol

....but if I got this right the alternator recharges the battery right ?

yeah so basically everything went ok with the install of my current buys the kenwood KAC8452 and the alpine spr 17lp. They sound really great BTW. And also the put the sony nw hd1 adaptor in so I can now listen to mp3s in my car! who needs a cd changer

only snag I came accross was reconnecting the gamma hu back up as it need a code which I did not have but a trip to VW sorted this. Mounted the amp on the back seat. So plenty of ventilation there, dont think it would've got too much under a front seat.

I've only got the front 2 speakers amped. Its a 4 channel amp. Sounds great but I think I need an sub or tube. And the speakers in the back door are the standard ones. Which in here I was advised not to bother changing. But I went into an car audio where I bought the amp wiring kit from and asked them a couple of questions then eneded up tellin them what I've done they said with regard to speakers you should really put some better speakers in the back as your ears wont be hearing a full spectrum of the sound. So they was working on a customers car and let me sit in it and let me listen to the car with 2 fronts speakers amped and them told me jump into another car audi a3 which had all 4 speakers done and I did notice to difference. He tried to explain it like imagine someone talking to you face to face and then imagine somone talking to you with there back to them you can hear them but its not the same as if you were facing them so thought hmmmm ok makes sense ... thought they was trying to flog me some more speakers but didnt. Not sure if this is bollocks or gospel. But "I" did notice the difference in sound with 4 speakers. He also said I wouldnt need speakers as powerful as the ones in the frony but something around 150watt totalling.

The mp3 adapter was quite easy to fit and was worth the money. I've already been making a driving music playlist  :smug:

Only prob I think of is how much space a sub would take up as I do need my boot space for family life.

Well thats about it comments views questions ideas anything welcomed.

Well I would say rubbish in terms of speakers in the back. If the front speakers are getting enough power and are positioned well then no one would ever need rear speakers unless you were wanting a surround sound setup. I've tried in the past using rear speakers and I couldn't hear them with my install so a waste of time connecting them up. That was in a 206 and my current mk2 Golf

I would agree with J_S. I only ever ran componets in the front and a sub in my mk2 and that sounded awesome. I'll only fit rear speakers when I run out of other things to buy lol.

No idea what he's on about 150watts in the back lol. That's just the power the speakers can handle, nothing more. more watts doesn't mean more volume.

Personally I would forget upgrading the rears for now. Leave them on the headunit. Options for your sub are a stealth box which would go where your first aid kit is. N/s behind the arch in the boot. This would take up very little of your boot space, but allow you to run a 10" or 12" sub in there giving you some nice bass.

The other option is something like a bazooka bass tube. These aren't as good as a standard sub, but are better than nothing. Unfortunally both options aren't as cheap as a standard box type sub enclosure.

What about having a box on a plug so it can be removed easily when you need the boot?

thats what I thought its about the rms not the watts.

personally the front 2 amped sound well AWESOME!!!

Who cares whats in the back. A box on a plug sounds like a perfect solution or one hidden in the first aid compartment as well I dont have a first aid kit *naughty me* lol.

but I'm more than happy with the sound. Even without a sub its great. But I would like a sub in there to get that ba-ba-booom
