Ordering new car question
« on: 03 September 2024, 18:46 »
Just asking for some advice please, when ordering a new car with VW I was advised they have a car in stock which is currently sat in emden waiting to be shipped to the uk, I agreed the purchase and filled out the credit agreement etc and was advised I would hear in the next few days..

Fast forward a few days later, no emails or communication from the dealer so I rang them and they advised the credit application went through fine and the car is in my name etc and is currently sat at a status 38

Fast forward 2 weeks and still no documentation received either in form of a credit agreement or order confirmation.. my question is, should I have received either of these in the last few weeks as they believe the car is just awaiting shipment from emden?

Thanks for any help!

I bought my current car in 2020 and things may have changed since then with regard to documentation.

You’ve not said if you bought your car online or in person in the dealer’s showroom and documentation processes may be different depending on the sales channel used. I bought my current car in person at the dealership and after agreeing the price with the salesman and placing the order, I signed the order documentation was given copies of the documents there and then.

With regard to the finance documents; I was sent a link by VWFS to the documents for me to digitally sign only one day before I took delivery of my car.

I don’t know if my experience was the norm though.

Thank you for your reply, sorry for the confusion.. I agreed to the sale of the car at the dealership and signed all paperwork on their mini iPad.. since then I’ve not received anything

I would say that you ought to have some form of documentation confirming your order that includes details of the car, any options, the agreed price, the amount of any deposit paid etc. The order documentation usually sets out the contractual terms and conditions of the sale should include such things as the rights and responsibilities of the buyer and seller, your right to withdraw under the 14 day cooling off period required under UK consumer law, what happens to any deposit you might have paid if you needed to cancel (e.g. if your circumstances changed at short notice), etc, etc.

I would phone the dealer again and specifically ask for a copy of the order documentation. It could be that vehicle order documentation is all digital now so you may not get hard copies. If so, then it should be straightforward for the salesperson you dealt with to email copies to you.

Yes whilst the order is yours, the car earmarked, its not yours and the credit agreement starts until delivery.

Your right to cancel in 14 days starts from when the contracted item is delivered (ie you have the car).

Don't worry, its all normal.
