what oil for cabriolet hood hydraulic pump
« on: 13 January 2010, 02:39 »

I understand the proper oil used is power steering oil VW G 002 500 but also heard that aftermarket oil will also do.

I am in the course changing the broken pump with a 'new' 2nd hand one, local fuel station only has Mobil ATF220 (the red oil?) when I asked for PAS oil.

will that work in the power hood pump? if not , what spec should i be looking for if i cna not find 002 500?

many many thanks !

As long as the after market oil is the same rating, i can't see it being a problem thought it's worth bearing in mind i've never changed the oil in one of those :)

I would use the proper oil, anything else may damage the seals in the pump.

true, i have ordered some , picking up sat morning.

just swapped the pump, suddnly have a bad feeling that it could be the pipes leaking instead of the pump.
(i was told by the garage that i need a new pump, they said my pump is leaking) but i couldn't see anything wrong with it after taken it out.

those pipes most cost me the 'car' from vw hahaha....hope i don't need to replace them
