Steering/driver assist errors
« on: 23 January 2025, 23:26 »
Apologies. I know this has been discussed but just wanted a little advice. I am about to purchase a 2021 Mk 8 Golf GTi Clubsport. The independent dealer rang me today saying after my test drive the car threw up the driver assist steering errors which I know now to be very common. He said they couldn’t sell me the car as they want to replace the steering wheel first. They have also said they will check software up to date etc. should I be worried or will the new steering wheel hopefully resolve and I should be grateful the dealer seems to be decent and up front.

Thank you in advance. I was so excited about this car.

I had my steering wheel replaced about a year ago and the bongs and warnings, which had plagued the car for two years, disappeared immediately.

In the last month, I've had a few warnings flash up (familiar "travel/emergency assist unavailable") but they have quickly gone and have been infrequent.  I'm putting them down to the bad weather but will go back to the dealer if they re-occur more often.

Yes there are other causes of that, mainly weather related. Those are to be expected, the constant bloody bonging with a faulty steering wheel... no thats not expected at all.

Thanks guys - I guess that reassures me some what and the fact that the dealer recognised the issue and is rectifying with what appears to be the correct mechanism does give a little more confidence. So cant wait to get this car............

Assume you are also getting a warranty from the dealer? If it was me, I’d be happy to go ahead and enjoy the car👍
