Hi, has anyone got the R360 rims in the matte bronze? I’m thinking about changing my Adelaide’s for a set of these, but struggling to find any images of the bronze on a mk8 golf, ideally on a moonstone grey car. Really trying to work out what colour would be best on the moonstone. Thanks!
-
I'd go with a dark grey... Seem to remember there's a mazda grey that looks perfect.
Have a search on here
-
Thanks Fred, I found a thread (what have you done too your golf today) and Tony jazz has fitted some gunmetal grey ones. Looks nice:
https://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=287167.msg2663083#msg2663083
Really would Like to see the bronze though. Got a feeling they might look smart against the grey.
-
I was thinking of these actually... Refurbed adelaides in "mazda black"

Ooh they look rather good, I wonder what the grey wheel against a grey car is like though. I love the look of the Adelaide’s , but the diamond cut / finish is making me nervous.
-
My adelaides are a mess after three and a half years. Not curb damage either, just lacquer lift. Vw refused warranty claim.
Going to get them powder coated I think.
-
Silver looks pretty good against moonstone imo.

It’s rubbish isn’t it, every time I wash mine I’m starting to see small lifts or flakes which I touch in the clear lacquer, but I won’t spot everything and I think eventually it’ll go bad and get underneath. My view is change to lighter rims which are a bit different, I like the R360s because they are almost OEM and lighter too.

That looks very 😎 Silver in that style works, I think the lowering also helps.
Mines factory height, so I’d like to see some R360s not lowered on a moonstone car. Hard to find images of this!!
-
The wheels in that picture are 4x Audi R8 V10 fronts, so 20 inch, with that drop I’d be surprised if they didn’t rub.
-
Not the right car or style of wheels but I figured Nardo Grey was pretty similar to Moonstone and bronze is bronze, so a quick google for a reference of colour match:

(https://i.postimg.cc/jjHPw53s/IMG-2365.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
I guess if you put in a side shot of a Moonstone GTI and an R360 into an AI thingy it would throw up an image. Unfortunately I’m more of an abacus and quill type of guy…

Not the correct wheels or exact colour, but give a good idea.

Thanks for this, gives a good idea and I never thought of searching for an Audi in that grey
I reckon silver, dark grey or bronze would work on the grey, not sure about black but never been a fan of black wheels (apart from them hiding the brake dust!)

Ok thanks for finding these, that looks pretty tasty! There are so many choices of wheels it's hard to decide what to go for.
-
Mmm, not sure about that combo, but its all personal taste. Gold/bronze wheels are so synonymous with the Royal Blue Subaru Impreza that they somehow look out of place on anything else, especially a generally understated GTI. Just my two-penny worth.

I’m not sure on Moonstone Grey / Bronze alloys combination either.
IMHO bronze coloured alloys work best with dark paint colours - dark blues, black and dark greys. I’m also not a fan of the extreme lowered look in some of the pictures that’ve been posted in this discussion topic, particularly those cars that have been lowered to the point of being slammed. However, as you’ve said, it’s all a matter of personal taste and we all like different things.

Thanks guys, I am 50/50 at the moment on the bronze, some cars look great but I think it has to be the right shade of bronze, there are lots of variants. I am also with you on the Subaru thing and darker colours having a better contrast. Hard decision that needs to be thought about...
I am keeping my car (for now anyway) factory height so won't be slammed or anything, just after some alloys that won't give me nightmares thinking about diamond cut and lacquer issues! I like the R360 alloys, they seem well made, no spacers or spigot rings needed and lighter / stronger than the VW rims.
So black is out, bronze 50/50, maybe it's a toss up between gunmetal and silver. Although plain old silver might be a bit of a safe choice, I am wondering if it's the right one now seeing the MK8 on silver R8 alloys earlier in the thread, it seemed to go well.
-
Personally given how Mk8 OEM's that look good are black, I'd choose the gun metal...
You've got me thinking about these wheels now.... I wonder if they have the right stock offset (I don't want them hanging out like a racing dog's b0ll0x) and whether they take the standard VW centre hubs?
-
The 19” R360’s are 8.5” wide and from memory I think are around ET45 so will fill sit further out in the arches. Probably a similar width and offset to those multi spoke things Volkswizard Andrew had fitted to his mk8 Clubsport if you want an idea of how they’ll sit.
Personally I think the bronze and Monnstone will look fab, and hide brake dust pretty well too. Black shows up brake dust badly, dark grey hides it well, silver is so so. I’ve owned a hell of a lot of different alloy wheels in my time but am old and boring now so would go for black as it looks really good on barronebirra’s car: https://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=290724.0
I get the Subaru blue and gold thing which will get car nerds twitching, but it’s ancient history now and the world keeps turning. I think bronze looks better on lighter coloured cars which seems contrary to everyone else. That possibly explains my bad dress sense… 😁

Looks like they are ET44 watching the video from the Volkswizard chap, they look to fill the arch every so slightly more. I just like the fact they are designed for the EA888 platform and look almost OEM. I do love the Adeleides mind you, they look great but longevity isn't great.

I still think this combo will work, bronze is now 70/30 in my mind! Just has to be the right shade of bronze to work, not too bright and also not too dark. I must have a dodgy dress sense also

That's great to see, gives a good perspective of the wheel on the MK8. I'll have to subscribe to his channel, it's very interesting stuff there
-
I fitted ET 44 18" Borbet rims to my moonstone Mk 8, the ET44 fills them perfectly. My wheels were also a titanium colour, I think it a good match.
-
R360 on my R were originally black but had them done in a colour similar to the blue chrome on the Pretoria’s
Didn’t like the Bronze in them and the grey is very dark in colour

That looks really nice, especially against the white. Is your factory height?

Yes standard springs in it

Ok great, looks really good - shame you can't get that colour from Racingline it works really well!

Found this on Youtube, I think it is the gunmetal grey colour - looks really good!

Just need to find a video like this with the bronze alloys, really helps visualise.

Hello Tony, yes thanks that was really useful! If you’ve got any more please send them along, I am still undecided
-
Hi Beeboper, will try and dug some out but if not all I can say is that they have been a safe purchase in as much as still looking good regardless of weather extremes. I did have then coated when fitted and advised to use nothing more than your car washing foam {I use Autoglyn products, have for years} and not any specific alloy wheel cleaner due to potential abrasive additives contained. If the Bronze had been available then would have been a tougher choice but still happy with mine. Hope your choice {eventually!} enhances the look of your Golf regardless.

Thank you Tony, that all sounds very promising (I also use Autoglym products they are great). I think the safe choice is the gunmetal, I can see how it looks on yours and it looks great
I just wish I could see the bronze and the shade of it in real life, if it is right it'll look wonderful but too bright and it could look nasty. I might contact them to see if they have some real examples.

Racingline introduced their new 18” alloy this week in 4finishrs incl the bronze. I know this is a thread about the 19” wheel but for wheel colour impression you could have a look at their website and also Flickr where there are good shots.

Thanks for this, I had a look and the new rims look nice, I think the design in 19 would be very nice! But can see how the bronze is to a degree. Still undecided

Hi guys, do you have any side shots lower down to see the ‘poke’ on these racingline alloys please? I’ve run the factory vs R360 wheels through an online calculator, and it looks to be a 12.4mm increase in track either side. Like to see what this looks in real life, measured against my car with some straight edges, but hard to tell what it’ll look like. Do you have any issues of stone chips and crap being chucked up the car with the extra width? Thanks.
-
Well I have a set of R360s incoming, thought about it enough!! I bottled the brave bronze option and went for safe gunmetal… I’ll post some pics when it’s all swapped over from the factory rims.
-
Can't beat gunmetal wheels - classy, practical in terms of not looking dirty and not in your face.
PS - I have gunmetal wheels myself, if you hadn't guessed :smug:

100% agree on gunmetal - or similar shades such as anthracite grey - being the best colour for alloys. In addition to the plus points you’ve mentioned, IMHO they work well with most car paint colours.
-
A good safe choice to go with the Moonstone.
Looking forward to the photos

Here you go, got em fitted today, pretty pleased and the car seems to drive and handle a little better. Could be in my head but it feels good!

They look very good  and work well with Moonstone.
I still don’t understand why VW only fitted the stripe along the bottom of the front wing and front door on the Clubsport…………..
-
They look superb, did the wheel nut covers fit ok?
-
They look fab and certainly add some extra prescence and menace to the car
-
Those look brilliant! You made the right choice IMHO
-
Great choice and colour! The wheels compliment the car no doubt. Had mine just over a year now and still look as new. The Mk8 doesn't necessarily "shout" its presence as such {no bad thing} but with these fitted I certainly have had some second looks/questions. Enjoy sir!
-
Thank you everyone, glad to see a good consensus on the wheel choice and colour, I had so many weeks of thinking about my head hurt
I can confirm that the OE VW wheel bolt caps fit onto the supplied bolts and sit inside the wheel recess perfectly. Really good OEM+ option wheel.
Tony Jazz your earlier pics in the what have you done today thread got me looking into these in the first place

Thank you both

Looks great that really suits the car these wheels!
Some racingline springs would make it just 👌

Well I have been looking at those, I think the same but I’m not sure about the effect on the ride.

Yes, I agree it would look better up the side of the car. Found this before, might get this at some point.

Thanks  I was all set to get these in bronze (hence the thread title), but now I am sure this was the better choice for keeping things subtle and OEM+ looking.
